The first known mining claim in and around Plymouth was that of B.F. Capps: Puckerville, CA 1863.
The sale Aden & Simpson Mine and the Sutherland Claim to John Hooper was just the beginning of a myriad of mining ventures that would soon follow. The influx of miners and the profits from the mines would raise Plymouth to an economic prosperity that lasted for over 70 years.
In the 1850s, when Eleazer Potter built a home, Joe Williams built a store, and John Hooper purchased several mining claims, all in the northern reaches of Amador County, little did they realize they were establishing the foundation of what would become the mining boomtown of Plymouth, California.
